JENS KYLLÖNEN FROM FINLAND WINS EPT COPENHAGEN
Februar 24, 2009
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, February 21, 2009: With more than half the field coming from Nordic countries, it was little surprise that the winner of this year’s PokerStars.com European Poker Tour event in Copenhagen was a Nordic player. PokerStars player Jens Kyllönen, from Finland, takes home 6,541,920 DKK (€878,057) after beating Sweden’s Peter Hedlund heads-up.
The 19-year-old from Helsinki was among 276 players hailing from the Nordic countries of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland – from a record field of 462 players. He was also the first Finnish player to win an EPT since Patrik Antonius in Baden in season two.
As part of his EPT Copenhagen prize, Kyllönen also wins a seat in the €10,000 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. Kyllönen has been playing poker for two years but only started playing full-time once he completed his army service. He mainly plays online and EPT Copenhagen was only his second big international tournament. He said: “I really like the EPT atmosphere and I’m planning to play the rest of the events this season. I’m pretty happy with the way I played here, although I was lucky with some coin flips as well. I don’t think it has really sunk in what I have done yet, but I feel pretty great.”
Runner-up Peter Hedlund, an EPT regular and one of the liveliest players on the circuit, won nearly €500,000 for his efforts. It was the 40-year-old Swede’s second EPT final – back in season three he won £36,000 for coming seventh at EPT London.
Nine Team PokerStars Pros took part in Copenhagen but none made the money. Italian Luca Pagano went deepest but was knocked out towards the end of day two. World champion Peter Eastgate, Norway’s Johnny Lodden and tennis legend Boris Becker – all sponsored by PokerStars – also made early exits.
The 50,000 Danish kroner buy-in tournament, hosted by Casino Copenhagen, attracted 462 players from 30 countries, including 112 players who won their seats online with PokerStars. The total prize pool was 22,176,000 DKK (€2,976,465). The last two days of the tournament were broadcast live on PokerStars.tv.
The PokerStars EPT founder John Duthie said: “It’s great to see Finland back in contention at an EPT… Patrik Antonius was our last Finnish winner in season two and is now one of the best-known players in the world. Nordic players are always a threatening force at EPTs and in Copenhagen they have clearly demonstrated their huge talents. ”

THE POKERSTARS EUROPEAN POKER TOUR MONTE CARLO GRAND FINAL
Februar 19, 2009
ISLE OF MAN, UK – February 17, 2009: The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour is set to end Season Five in spectacular fashion this year – with Europe’s largest and richest seven-day poker extravaganza in glamorous Monte Carlo.
A wealth of different tournaments at the PokerStars.com Monte Carlo EPT Grand Final, which runs April 27 to May 3, looks set to make this the most exciting poker festival ever held in Europe. Fourteen separate events – stretched across one phenomenal week of poker – will provide breath-taking, non-stop action in one of the most stunning destinations in the world.
PokerStars is pulling out all the stops to ensure that poker fans from all over the globe have masses of opportunities to win their way to beautiful Monaco. Satellites are already running on PokerStars for the Main Event.
Last year’s Main Event attracted over 840 players with 22-year-old Canadian Glen Chorny taking home over €2 million for clinching the title. This year, the €10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em (NLHE) contest is set to smash all records at a European poker tournament with over 1,000 players expected to attend, creating an estimated €10 million total prize pool. The Main Event is only one of the attractions – this year there are two major new tournaments – the three-day €25,000 European High Roller Championship and the two-day €5,000 European Pot Limit Omaha Championship (PLO). Dedicated satellites will be running for the PLO tournament on PokerStars, offering a special three-day weekend prize package to Monte Carlo for qualifiers.
In addition to the three premier tournaments, there is also a big increase in the number of side events which will now include €5k, €2k, €1k and €500 NLHE tournaments as well as a €500 PLO re-buy event. Numerous live satellite tournaments are also scheduled – including two super satellites each to the Main Event and high roller tournament, plus a unique super satellite tournament enabling players to win seats at any future PokerStars tour destination – a prize which effectively gives players the chance to win a trip to almost anywhere on the planet.
On top of all of this, PokerStars is planning another Poker Camp during the PokerStars EPT Monte Carlo event. This comes after the huge success of the Poker Camps held in Barcelona and the Bahamas as part of The PokerStars European Tour, Season Five. Members of Team PokerStars Pro will be on hand to provide invaluable and interactive coaching sessions focused on slow structure and deep stack tournament play, with the camp tournament winner being awarded a PokerStars EPT Monte Carlo Main Event package. Further details on the schedule of events will be available soon on www.pokerstars.com.
Further action at the beautiful Monte Carlo Bay Resort and Hotel will include daily battleship poker tournaments – where players compete online and face-to-face – and a wide variety of sit n go’s available every day.
As well as competing in satellites for Monte Carlo, PokerStars players will also – for the first time on the EPT circuit – be able to buy-in online to all scheduled tournaments directly through their PokerStars.com accounts. Online registration opens on April 20, 2009.
Also for the first time ever, players who buy-in or qualify online for EPT Monte Carlo events will receive Frequent Player Points (FPP) for rewards in the PokerStars VIP Club.
“The other big news this year is that the EPT Grand Final Main Event structure is being changed to 30,000 in chips and 60-minute levels on Day 1, with 75-minute levels from Day 2. This will also be the structure for all Season Six PokerStars EPT Main Events.
PokerStars EPT founder John Duthie said: “It is staggering to think that, at the very first EPT Grand Final in 2005, we had just 211 players and a total prize pool of €2 million. Last year, both player numbers and prize pool were four times that and this year, it looks likely that we’ll smash the €10 million mark for total prize pool. The EPT Grand Final now sits at the very pinnacle of world poker events and will prove a massive draw for top players from all over the globe. The addition of the High Roller event, the new European PLO championship and myriad other side events will provide unending excitement for the players – it looks set to be an incredible week.”

Adelaide’s biggest ever poker tournament makes Karl Krautshneder $170,000 richer
Februar 9, 2009
The opening event of the PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour attracts 215 to Adelaide’s SKYCITY Casino
ADELAIDE, Australia, 7th February 2009 – Tonight Melbourne’s Karl Krautshneder beat 214 poker hopefuls to become the PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Adelaide Champion. Pocketing $170,215 AUD he becomes the point leader in the ANZPT player race.
Searching for the next local Poker Star, the ANZPT is going to Australia and New Zealand’s leading casinos. The tour is league based which means there is a point system awarding players for every event they enter as well as for the position they finish in each tournament. The first season will run up until July this year.
Karl Krautshneder won his way to Adelaide via PokerStars and he has been playing poker for four years. He lives in Melbourne where he plays regularly at Crown Casino and online. Karl is a drug and alcohol clinician, helping council people dealing with addiction. His daughter has been following his progress keenly via the PokerStars blog while back home in Melbourne.
“I feel fantastic after winning my way here on PokerStars for only $31; the whole tournament has been so exciting for me. I am definitely going to playing in more of these, especially as I am now the point’s leader. I really want to play in some of the APPT in Asia and this gives me a great chance to get there,’ said Karl. When asked what he would be doing with the winnings he said: ‘I want to take my daughter on a holiday, after the credit card has been taken care of.’
The tournament started with 215 players, 14 of those travelling from overseas, generating a total prize pool in excess of half a million dollars. Some of Australia and New Zealand’s brightest poker players travelled to Adelaide, including Team PokerStars Professionals: Joe Hachem and Lee Nelson. There was also the PokerStars Team Australia players; Emad Tahtouh, Eric Assadourian, Grant Levy, Tony Hachem and Celina Lin, all battling to become the first winner of an ANZPT event.
The final table was a mix of Australia’s experienced poker players alongside some who were making their final table debut. Tony Dunst and Julius Colman were the most experienced players. Both having results in WSOP and WPT events. Young Melbourne player James Broom, who last year won Crown Casino’s Melbourne Championships, was one of the more dangerous players at the table. Celina Lin, a Team Australia PokerStars sponsored player, was making her first appearance at a final table in Australia. Celina has really developed her game in the last few years. She had a fantastic tournament and has quickly established herself as one of Australia’s premier female players – this result really cements this fact.
After a very quick final table Karl found himself heads-up against Tony Dunst after only four hours of play. The title was decided when Tony’s two pair was rundown by Karl’s flush draw when the seven of clubs arrived on the river.
PokerStars.net has agreed to give $5,000 to Karl Krautshneder’s former clinic – Berry Street Victoria. The clinic helps under privileged children and to honour Karl’s ten years of dedication to the centre PokerStars.net would like to show their support to his hard work.
The final standings and monies earned in Australian dollars are as follows:
1. $170,215 Karl Krautshneder (Victoria, Australia) ANZPT points – 70
2. $111,520 Tony Dunst (Victoria, Australia) ANZPT points – 69
3. $64,565 Daniel Noja (ACT, Australia) ANZPT points – 68
4. $52,825 Mike Stecker (California, USA) ANZPT points – 66
5. $41,085 Dean Nyberg (South Australia, Australia) ANZPT points – 65
6. $29,345 Julius Colman (Victoria, Australia) ANZPT points – 64
7. $23,475 Celina Lin (Victoria, Australia) ANZPT points – 63
8. $17,610 Bruno Potaro (Victoria, Australia) ANZPT points – 62
9. $11,740 James Broom (Victoria, Australia) ANZPT points – 60
TOTAL PRIZE MONEY $586,950 AUD
