POKERSTARS CROWNS 2010 WORLD CHAMPION OF ONLINE POKER AND ANNOUNCES REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS OF ONLINE POKER

September 30, 2010

The 2010 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) has ended with
POTTERPOKER from Missoula, USA, being crowned Main Event champion. The man from
Montana won the first-place prize of $2,278,097.50 – a new world record for online poker –
after defeating joeysweetp, from Portsmouth, USA, heads-up.
POTTERPOKER’s victory came at the end of a long and hard-fought event that lasted more
than 25 hours. In the final hand, with blinds at 100,000/200,000 and joeysweetp trailing by 8
million chips to POTTERPOKER’s 40.5 million, the board read J♥-8♣-2♥-K♥ when
POTTERPOKER bet out and joeysweetp moved all-in as a bluff. Unfortunately for him
POTTERPOKER snap-called with the nuts – A♥-4♥ – to claim the 2010 WCOOP Main Event
title, while runner-up joeysweetp pocketed $1,404,725 for his efforts.
As the victory sunk in, POTTERPOKER said: “I wouldn’t be here without so many amazing
people in my life! All my friends, family, poker buddies.”
The two-day $5,200 Main Event was the last of 62 tournaments in the 2010 WCOOP. It
boasted a field of 2,443 players (299 more than last year) which created a record-breaking
prize pool of $12,215,000 (almost a $1.5 million increase on last year’s $10.72 million) and
shattered the event’s $10 million guarantee.
This year’s record-breaking ninth WCOOP continued its domination in the world of online
poker tournaments, guaranteeing $50 million in total prize money. In the end, a staggering
$63,157,150 was awarded, $11m more than last year’s series.
The 2010 WCOOP featured 141,126 buy-ins, with 18 different countries represented on the
WCOOP bracelet honours list. The 2010 WCOOP saw first bracelets for players from Russia
(with three wins), Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Netherlands Antilles, Monaco, Ukraine and
Uruguay. The United States, meanwhile, can boast the most bracelet winners of the online
festival, with 33. The second-highest total was won by Australian players, earning four
WCOOP bracelets in 2010, after previously only winning one.
All WCOOP 2010 bracelet winners will be invited to a special bracelet presentation
ceremony during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure festival in January, in the Bahamas.
In the overall 2010 WCOOP Leader Board, Australian pro Andy McLEOD won Player of the
Series after earning the most points with four final-table appearances. Other stand-out
players this year include Xaston, who was the only player this year to win two WCOOP
bracelets, and PearlJammer, who topped the table of most cashes with 15.
In the all-time WCOOP record books, g0lfa now stands on his own as the only player to win
three WCOOP bracelets. After earning two bracelets in 2009, he triumphed in 2010’s Event
55 – the $530 No Limit Hold’em with one rebuy and one add-on.
Earlier on the final day, Team PokerStars Pro Alex Kravchenko overcame an incredibly
tough final table on the second day of Event 61 – the $10,300 8-Game High Roller – to
scoop the first prize of $345,800 and win his first WCOOP bracelet. He edged out fellow
PokerStars pro Jose “nachobarbero” Barbero in the closing stages, the Argentinian finishing
third for $172,900.
Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier also had a stellar WCOOP, winning his first bracelet in
Event 42 – $1,050 No Limit Hold’em, and taking down the $435,862.07 first prize. Team
Online Pro ‘Donald’, Anders Berg, took down the title in Event 34, the $320 FL Triple Draw
2-7, winning $25,890.30.

LIV BOEREE JOINS TEAM POKERSTARS PRO

September 30, 2010

One of poker’s hottest young talents, Liv Boeree, has joined the world’s biggest online poker
site as a member of Team PokerStars Pro. The 26-year-old, who won the EPT San Remo
Main Event for €1,250,000 in April, joins the likes of Daniel Negreanu, 2009 World Champion
Joe Cada and Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, as part of PokerStars’ elite team.
Boeree was unveiled as PokerStars’ latest Team Pro at the launch of the EPT London
Festival of Poker on Tuesday, September 28. She was introduced to the media by
PokerStars ambassador Daniel Negreanu, who said: “Liv is the whole package. She has a
great résumé after winning EPT San Remo, is likeable, well spoken, attractive and hardworking.
There is no question she was the top free agent and I’m ecstatic that she is now
part of the team.”
When asked what the deal means to her, Liv Boeree said: “It’s what I’ve been working
towards for the last five years. When I decided I wanted to become a pro poker player I
wanted to become as well-known and successful as I could be. One of my goals was to
become a member of Team PokerStars Pro – and now I’ve done it. I’m so honoured to be
invited onto such an exclusive team.”
Boeree has barely been out of the headlines in the past year. After her win at EPT San
Remo, she attracted a lot of attention from the media, appearing on GMTV, the BBC news
and ESPN, as well as being featured in magazines and newspapers such as Loaded,
Maxim, the Sun, the Daily Mail and Card Player.
That win in Italy catapulted Boeree into the spotlight, but she has been gradually building her
profile in the past two years with a string of cashes in big tournaments. Boeree registered
her first major cash by winning the European Ladies Championship in 2008 for $42,000.
Since then she has racked up nearly $2m in live tournaments, including eight cashes at the
World Series of Poker.
PokerStars Regional Director, UK & Ireland, Emma Crowe said: “We are delighted to
welcome Liv Boeree to Team PokerStars Pro. Liv has proved to be one of the most
successful players in the world over the past 12 months with her stunning win at EPT San
Remo. She will be a major presence on both the EPT and UKIPT tours over the next 12
months.”

Its taken just a little more than nine years but PokerStars dealt its 50 billionth hand last week, giving away more than $950,000 in the process. The 50 Billion hand promotion rewarded players with cash prizes as every millionth hand ticked away on the way to the landmark hand. Then at 10.37am ET on September 22, with 220,000 players playing on 33,000 tables at PokerStars.com, tbvle, from Germany, on table Ornamenta (a $0.02/$0.05 no-limit Holdem cash table) won the 50 billionth hand, collecting $56,140 in the process.

The other five players at the table also scooped between $2,990 and $3,070 each just for being there, a sum based on the number of VIP Player Points they had amassed at the table over the previous 50 hands. As an additional bonus each player at the table also received a WCOOP Main Event ticket worth $5,200. As with previous promotions of this type it was an exciting time, with the table frozen prior to the deal to allow railbirds time to log-in and watch. The entire promotion paid out $952,239.50 to PokerStars players. Thats history made. Now on to the 60 billionth!

THE POKERSTARS.NET APPT GOES TO THE BEACH IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC

September 24, 2010

PokerStars.net, the world’s largest online poker site and title sponsor of the Asia Pacific
Poker Tour (APPT), has announced a return to the beautiful South Pacific island of Cebu in
the Philippines for the fourth leg of Season 4 of the APPT.
After a hugely successful debut in Cebu last year, the tour returns to the luxurious Shangri-
La’s Mactan Resort and Spa for another five-day Main Event from November 12-16, with a
buy-in of 100,000 Pesos (approximately $2,165 USD) and a series of exciting side events.
“We’re delighted to be taking the APPT back to the Philippines, and Cebu in particular,” said
Jeffrey Haas, President of the APPT. “The Tour has gone from strength to strength in its
relatively short life and fields are growing all the time. Last year’s event in Cebu was a
definite highlight and offered further evidence of the continued passion for poker in the Asia
Pacific region.”
Last time in Cebu, 319 players created a prize pool of more than $630,000, with Korea’s
Dong-bin Han winning the $156,722 first prize. The 37-year-old outlasted a field of the
region’s top players, including PokerStars.net Team Asia and Australia Pros Bryan Huang,
Tae Jun Noh, Celina Lin, Raymond Wu and Tony Hachem.
Han became only the second Asia-based player to win an APPT Main Event. As well as
Korea, the United States, New Zealand and the Philippines were all represented on the final
table, while 21 of the 40 in-the-money finishers were PokerStars players and qualifiers.
This year’s event in Cebu seems likely to continue the APPT’s remarkable growth and
international appeal over its first four years.
“The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) congratulates APPT
Limited on the holding of the 4th Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) 2010 in Mactan, Cebu,”
said new PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Cristino L. Naguiat, Jr. “The conduct of these
international tournaments helps promote the Philippines as an enjoyable and exciting
gaming and tourism destination. Last year’s event had participation from more than 300
poker enthusiasts from 33 countries. We hope the APPT 2010 will surpass this.”
In addition to great poker action, players can make the most of the tranquil surroundings at
the Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa. During their stay they can take in a round of golf or
pampering session in one of the world’s best spas. Those looking for more adventure
outside of the poker room can partake in a number of water sports activities on the incredible
island of Cebu.
PokerStars Team Asia Pro Celina Lin commented: “The five-star resort, with wonderful
beaches, spas and restaurants, is one of the most idyllic places I’ve ever played poker. Cebu
is a beautiful destination and the poker tournament itself was also fierce and fun. It will be
even better this time!”

SPECIAL CHARITY EVENT AT EPT LONDON SET TO RAISE MORE THAN £10,000 IN AID OF CANCER RESEARCH UK

September 23, 2010

A unique charity event is being held at this year’s PokerStars.com EPT London Poker
Festival in aid of Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating
cancer through research. The event, which has a guaranteed prize pool of £100,000, has a
buy-in of just £100 (+10+10). This is the first time an event of this kind has ever been run in
Europe.
£10 of each buy-in will go straight to Cancer Research UK, guaranteeing that at least
£10,000 will be raised for the charity. PokerStars, which is hosting the fund-raiser from
October 2-4 at London’s Hilton Metropole Hotel, has pledged to match both the £10 charity
contribution AND all additional player donations. Players can start donating now by
transferring funds from their account to the ‘cancerUK’ account on the PokerStars client.
The EPT London charity tournament follows several highly successful live tournament fundraisers
sponsored by PokerStars. In January this year, stars such as R&B singer Kelly
Rowland, the former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash and hip-hop star Nelly helped raise
more than $150,000 for amfAR, the AIDS research charity, during a celebrity charity poker
tournament held as part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas.
In Season 5, PokerStars players and celebrities such as French Rugby International
Sebastien Chabal, Spanish football International Pepe Reina and Eventing World Champion
(and UK royal) Zara Phillips helped raise more than €160,000 at the EPT Grand Final for
Ante Up For Africa, which is dedicated to helping people in worn-torn Darfur.
In 2008, PokerStars also lent its support to the annual Hold’em100 charity tournament,
which raises funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital. This is the first hospital in the
world dedicated to cancer treatment and is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in
Europe.

PokerStars.com EPT Vilamoura Final Table Player Profiles
Seat 1: Teddy Sheringham, 44, UK, Friend of PokerStars – 1,783,000 Teddy Sheringham is an
England soccer legend who scored over 350 goals in a 23-year career that included spells at
Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. His achievements in the game
include winning the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League. He also played for England
51 times, scored 11 goals and was part two World Cup squads. Since turning to poker in recent
years, he has some impressive results including his biggest cash – 14th place in last year’s WSOP-E
Main Event for £40,481. That result was followed a few weeks later with 49th place at EPT London
for £ 11,600 and he came 103rd at the EPT Grand Final last season for €20,000. Teddy started Day 4
having already played six holes of golf in the EPT Vilamoura Fairways & Felts Challenge alongside
Daniel Negreanu and Marcin Horecki.
Seat 2: Toby Lewis, 20, UK, PokerStars player – 3,322,000 PokerStars player Toby Lewis, 20, was
already thriving when he won a big pot on Day 4 against Swedish PokerStars qualifier (and former
chip leader) Martin Jacobson. Lewis, who hails from Southampton but now lives in London, has
played several EPTs and cashed in Prague and the Grand Final last season. He also came 7th at the
PokerStars IPT event in Venice for €25,000 and 12th at the recent PokerStars Russian Poker Series
event in Riga for €5,250.
Seat 3: Martin Jacobson, Sweden, PokerStars qualifier – 441,000 PokerStars qualifier Martin
Jacobson had a rough Day 4, losing several flips which massively dented his stack, but the talented
pro has still managed to make the final table. He already has a string of great results to his name
including third place at EPT Budapest for €197,904, runner-up at WPT Venice last year for €238,840
and a fourth place finish in the World Series $1,500 side event this summer for $183,345. His live
tournament winnings are already close to $1 million.
Seat 4: Jason “JaspudUF” Lee, 25, Florida, USA PokerStars qualifier – 1,167,000 Jason doesn’t like
long-haul flights much, so he has only played one EPT before – Copenhagen in Season 5 (and he
didn’t cash). He has scored a couple of minor cashes in the live arena with a $2,025 finish in a $1k
event at this year’s WSOP and another $2,099 in another Vegas tournament in July of this year but
he’s mainly an online pro, playing as “JaspudUF”. He’s cashed for $428,025 in PokerStars
tournaments..and has made several other five-figure scores. His biggest online win was $42,000.
According to Lee’s twitter account, he “loves working out, kickboxing and making people laugh”.
He’s being railed in Vilamoura by his great friends Norwegian pro Annette Obrestad and American
Scott Montgomery.
Seat 5: Sergio Coutinho, 30, Oporto, Portugal – 872,000 Coutinho has played two EPTs so far – San
Remo and Vilamoura last season – but this is his first EPT cash. He was training in physical education
until 2005 and turned pro as a poker player around three years ago. This is his best live result but he
has made the final of several major online tournaments. He said: “I’ve been doing well online so I
thought eventually I had to make a final table in a live event as well.” He has come second and third
in major online events as well as coming second in the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance
tournament. Last December, he came 11th here in Vilamoura in the €1,000 PokerStars Solverde
Poker Season main event.
Seat 6: Sam Trickett, 24, Nottingham, UK – 3,318,000 British pro Sam Trickett soared into the lead at
EPT Vilamoura when he won a massive pot to knock out Italian Marco Leonzio. That made him the
first player to over the 2,000,000 chip mark. Trickett has been playing poker, both live and online, for
around six years. This is his third EPT, but first cash (he has played the last two EPT London events).
His best live result to date was runner-up to Jason DeWitt in the WSOP $5,000 NLHE event this
summer for over $500k but he has had several other big scores including fourth place in the 2008
WSOP $5k NLHE event and winning the Luton GUKPT in 2008.
Seat 7: Rob Hollink, 48, Groningen, Netherlands – 259,000 chips Father-of-three Hollink was the
first ever EPT Grand Final champion back in Season 1 in 2005. The veteran Dutch pro has played
numerous EPTs since but has never again mirrored that early success. Before reaching Vilamoura this
year, he wrote on his blog that he was likely to bust in the first few days so he would have plenty of
time to play golf. How wrong he was! His last EPT cash was San Remo in Season 4. He also became
the first ever Dutch WSOP bracelet winner when he won the $10,000 Limit Hold’Em World
championships in 2008 for almost $500,000. He is currently the final table short stack but still in with
a chance of being the first ever double EPT champion.
Seat 8: Frederik Jensen, 28, Denmark, PokerStars player – 375,000 Also known as Frederik Brink
Jensen, this young Danish pro has had a stunning 2010 so far. It’s actually the first year he has ever
cashed in a major live tournament but he started spectacularly, finishing second at the Aussie
Millions for over $1 million. In April he had his first ever EPT cash (78th at San Remo for € 13,000)
and then two weeks later came third in the €5,000 NLHE side event at the EPT Grand Final for
€102,900. His best online result was winning the PokerStars Sunday Million in August 2008 for
$205,000. He also came 25th in the SCOOP Main Event this spring.
