JOSE ‘NACHO’ BARBERO CONTINUES HOT STREAK WITH VICTORY IN POKERSTARS.COM EPT LONDON HIGH ROLLER EVENT
Oktober 7, 2010
Team PokerStars Pro Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero has won the PokerStars.com European Poker
Tour London High Roller event to cap off an incredible run of results over the past two years.
The Argentinian Team PokerStars Pro, who scored back-to-back LAPT Main Event victories
in Uruguay and Peru earlier in 2010, stunned the field again in London, enjoying the biggest
tournament win of his career by taking first place for £556,000 in the High Roller event.
With a £20,000 buy-in the field of 77 players proved to be a tough proposition and Barbero
had to overcome fellow Team PokerStars Pros on his way to glory. The main thorn in his
side at the final table was Vanessa Selbst, who held a commanding chip lead with just eight
remaining. However, after battling his way towards the top of the chip leaderboard, Barbero
won a vital coin-flip against Selbst to eliminate her in fourth, and went on to beat Finnish pro
Jani Sointula heads-up.
After winning the event, an ecstatic Barbero, said: “I’m really happy to have won such a big
tournament in Europe. Finishing first in back-to-back LAPT events was fantastic and very
tough, but I was desperate to continue that form elsewhere. Now I can say I’ve beaten a
world-class field in Europe – it’s a dream come true.”
Team PokerStars Pro, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, praised Barbero, saying: “It has been an
incredible year for Nacho. He has proved at two LAPT events, in major online tournaments
at PokerStars, and now at EPT London against an elite field, that he has the game to
compete with the best in the world. I believe he is set to be one of the game’s biggest stars.”
Nacho’s win on European soil isn’t his first of the year. In May he triumphed at the France
Poker Series, winning €40,123. Barbero has also proved his poker skills on the virtual felt in
2010, winning a $2,100 Fixed Limit Hold’em Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP)
event for $62,780 in May, before more recently finishing third in the World Championship of
Online Poker (WCOOP) 8-Game High-Roller event for $172,900.
Jose Barbero has quickly ascended to the very top of the poker world in 2010 with combined
winnings in excess of $1.875 million. Nacho’s latest win now gives him a shot of also winning
the Card Player 2010 Player of the Year award – a remarkable achievement for the
Argentinian Team PokerStars Pro.
Sarne Lightman, Latin America Marketing Director, said: “PokerStars is extremely proud of
Nacho’s incredible success so far this year. At PokerStars we’ve always been committed to
investing in burgeoning poker markets and nurturing new generations of poker players. It’s
fitting that with Latin America becoming one of the world’s fastest growing poker markets,
the top Team Pro from that region explodes on to the global poker scene as one of the most
successful tournament players of 2010.”
POKERSTARS.COM ANNOUNCES MAMMOTH 2011 PCA SCHEDULE
Oktober 7, 2010
Ask any serious poker player where they spend the first half of January and the answer is
always the same: the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) – a gleaming highlight on the
poker calendar and a one-stop solution to the winter blues.
Taking place at the sumptuous Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, the 2011
PCA is set to be better and richer than ever before. With more than $25,000,000 in
tournament prizes expected to be awarded, the PCA will once again be the richest poker
festival outside Las Vegas.
The ten-day festival, which takes place from January 7-16, will feature more than 50 poker
tournaments across a wide range of buy-ins, formats and variants. Event highlights include a
$100,000 Super High Roller, a $25,000 High Roller, a $10,000 Turbo 6-Max tournament,
several Bounty events, and the $10,300 Main Event. The 2010 champion, 19-year-old
Harrison Gimbel, walked away from Paradise Island with $2.2 million. With over 170 players
having qualified for the 2011 Main Event to date, and with more than $1.7 million already in
the prize pool, the 2011 PCA winner looks set to scoop even more!
Michael Ward, PCA Tournament Director, said: “The PCA is truly a Poker Player’s Paradise.
Each January thousands of players descend upon Atlantis to take part in the first major
tournament of the year. Last year’s event produced over $24 million in total prize money and
without a doubt the PCA 2011 is going to be richer than ever. The PCA is a must-play event
for both the recreational and the professional player.”
Satellite tournaments are already running on PokerStars, where players can begin their
quest for Caribbean glory for as little as 5 Frequent Player Points (FPPs). There is also a
wide range of Steps (from $7.50) and Cash satellites (from $2.22 up to the weekly $700
final). Please see http://www.pokerstarscaribbeanadventure.com/qualify/ for full details on
how to qualify to the PCA.
The $15,780 prize package includes the $10,300 Main Event buy-in, nine nights’
accommodation for two at the Atlantis Resort, plus $1,002 in spending money. Players can
also buy in to the tournament directly through the PokerStars client.
Since 2004, more than $50 million in prize money has been awarded at the PCA, a huge
portion of which has gone to PokerStars players. Former winners include Team PokerStars
Pro Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Harrison Gimbel, Poorya Nazari (who pocketed $3 million
for his win), Ryan Daut, Steve Paul-Ambrose, John Gale and Gus Hansen.
George Markantonis, President, Atlantis, Paradise Island said: “We are very excited to be
hosting the seventh annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure at Atlantis, Paradise Island,
this January. Not only do we have the largest and most exciting casino in the Caribbean,
Atlantis has the beaches, bars, restaurants and activities to ensure an unforgettable week.”
Away from the tables, Atlantis is one of the world’s most exciting resorts, with guests given
the chance to swim with dolphins, play golf on the championship course, marvel at more
than 50,000 fish and mammals in the on-site aquarium, or splash through the water slides,
river rides and swimming pools of the Aquaventure complex. Alternatively, there are few
better places to relax than beside the shimmering blue seas of the Caribbean, on any of the
resort’s numerous beaches.
Whether you are seeking the chest of gold awarded to the winner, or simply two weeks of
Caribbean paradise in the middle of winter, the PCA can provide it all.
POKERSTARS CROWNS 2010 WORLD CHAMPION OF ONLINE POKER AND ANNOUNCES REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS OF ONLINE POKER
September 30, 2010
The 2010 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) has ended with
POTTERPOKER from Missoula, USA, being crowned Main Event champion. The man from
Montana won the first-place prize of $2,278,097.50 – a new world record for online poker –
after defeating joeysweetp, from Portsmouth, USA, heads-up.
POTTERPOKER’s victory came at the end of a long and hard-fought event that lasted more
than 25 hours. In the final hand, with blinds at 100,000/200,000 and joeysweetp trailing by 8
million chips to POTTERPOKER’s 40.5 million, the board read J♥-8♣-2♥-K♥ when
POTTERPOKER bet out and joeysweetp moved all-in as a bluff. Unfortunately for him
POTTERPOKER snap-called with the nuts – A♥-4♥ – to claim the 2010 WCOOP Main Event
title, while runner-up joeysweetp pocketed $1,404,725 for his efforts.
As the victory sunk in, POTTERPOKER said: “I wouldn’t be here without so many amazing
people in my life! All my friends, family, poker buddies.”
The two-day $5,200 Main Event was the last of 62 tournaments in the 2010 WCOOP. It
boasted a field of 2,443 players (299 more than last year) which created a record-breaking
prize pool of $12,215,000 (almost a $1.5 million increase on last year’s $10.72 million) and
shattered the event’s $10 million guarantee.
This year’s record-breaking ninth WCOOP continued its domination in the world of online
poker tournaments, guaranteeing $50 million in total prize money. In the end, a staggering
$63,157,150 was awarded, $11m more than last year’s series.
The 2010 WCOOP featured 141,126 buy-ins, with 18 different countries represented on the
WCOOP bracelet honours list. The 2010 WCOOP saw first bracelets for players from Russia
(with three wins), Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Netherlands Antilles, Monaco, Ukraine and
Uruguay. The United States, meanwhile, can boast the most bracelet winners of the online
festival, with 33. The second-highest total was won by Australian players, earning four
WCOOP bracelets in 2010, after previously only winning one.
All WCOOP 2010 bracelet winners will be invited to a special bracelet presentation
ceremony during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure festival in January, in the Bahamas.
In the overall 2010 WCOOP Leader Board, Australian pro Andy McLEOD won Player of the
Series after earning the most points with four final-table appearances. Other stand-out
players this year include Xaston, who was the only player this year to win two WCOOP
bracelets, and PearlJammer, who topped the table of most cashes with 15.
In the all-time WCOOP record books, g0lfa now stands on his own as the only player to win
three WCOOP bracelets. After earning two bracelets in 2009, he triumphed in 2010’s Event
55 – the $530 No Limit Hold’em with one rebuy and one add-on.
Earlier on the final day, Team PokerStars Pro Alex Kravchenko overcame an incredibly
tough final table on the second day of Event 61 – the $10,300 8-Game High Roller – to
scoop the first prize of $345,800 and win his first WCOOP bracelet. He edged out fellow
PokerStars pro Jose “nachobarbero” Barbero in the closing stages, the Argentinian finishing
third for $172,900.
Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier also had a stellar WCOOP, winning his first bracelet in
Event 42 – $1,050 No Limit Hold’em, and taking down the $435,862.07 first prize. Team
Online Pro ‘Donald’, Anders Berg, took down the title in Event 34, the $320 FL Triple Draw
2-7, winning $25,890.30.

LIV BOEREE JOINS TEAM POKERSTARS PRO
September 30, 2010
One of poker’s hottest young talents, Liv Boeree, has joined the world’s biggest online poker
site as a member of Team PokerStars Pro. The 26-year-old, who won the EPT San Remo
Main Event for €1,250,000 in April, joins the likes of Daniel Negreanu, 2009 World Champion
Joe Cada and Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, as part of PokerStars’ elite team.
Boeree was unveiled as PokerStars’ latest Team Pro at the launch of the EPT London
Festival of Poker on Tuesday, September 28. She was introduced to the media by
PokerStars ambassador Daniel Negreanu, who said: “Liv is the whole package. She has a
great résumé after winning EPT San Remo, is likeable, well spoken, attractive and hardworking.
There is no question she was the top free agent and I’m ecstatic that she is now
part of the team.”
When asked what the deal means to her, Liv Boeree said: “It’s what I’ve been working
towards for the last five years. When I decided I wanted to become a pro poker player I
wanted to become as well-known and successful as I could be. One of my goals was to
become a member of Team PokerStars Pro – and now I’ve done it. I’m so honoured to be
invited onto such an exclusive team.”
Boeree has barely been out of the headlines in the past year. After her win at EPT San
Remo, she attracted a lot of attention from the media, appearing on GMTV, the BBC news
and ESPN, as well as being featured in magazines and newspapers such as Loaded,
Maxim, the Sun, the Daily Mail and Card Player.
That win in Italy catapulted Boeree into the spotlight, but she has been gradually building her
profile in the past two years with a string of cashes in big tournaments. Boeree registered
her first major cash by winning the European Ladies Championship in 2008 for $42,000.
Since then she has racked up nearly $2m in live tournaments, including eight cashes at the
World Series of Poker.
PokerStars Regional Director, UK & Ireland, Emma Crowe said: “We are delighted to
welcome Liv Boeree to Team PokerStars Pro. Liv has proved to be one of the most
successful players in the world over the past 12 months with her stunning win at EPT San
Remo. She will be a major presence on both the EPT and UKIPT tours over the next 12
months.”

THE POKERSTARS.NET APPT GOES TO THE BEACH IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC
September 24, 2010
PokerStars.net, the world’s largest online poker site and title sponsor of the Asia Pacific
Poker Tour (APPT), has announced a return to the beautiful South Pacific island of Cebu in
the Philippines for the fourth leg of Season 4 of the APPT.
After a hugely successful debut in Cebu last year, the tour returns to the luxurious Shangri-
La’s Mactan Resort and Spa for another five-day Main Event from November 12-16, with a
buy-in of 100,000 Pesos (approximately $2,165 USD) and a series of exciting side events.
“We’re delighted to be taking the APPT back to the Philippines, and Cebu in particular,” said
Jeffrey Haas, President of the APPT. “The Tour has gone from strength to strength in its
relatively short life and fields are growing all the time. Last year’s event in Cebu was a
definite highlight and offered further evidence of the continued passion for poker in the Asia
Pacific region.”
Last time in Cebu, 319 players created a prize pool of more than $630,000, with Korea’s
Dong-bin Han winning the $156,722 first prize. The 37-year-old outlasted a field of the
region’s top players, including PokerStars.net Team Asia and Australia Pros Bryan Huang,
Tae Jun Noh, Celina Lin, Raymond Wu and Tony Hachem.
Han became only the second Asia-based player to win an APPT Main Event. As well as
Korea, the United States, New Zealand and the Philippines were all represented on the final
table, while 21 of the 40 in-the-money finishers were PokerStars players and qualifiers.
This year’s event in Cebu seems likely to continue the APPT’s remarkable growth and
international appeal over its first four years.
“The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) congratulates APPT
Limited on the holding of the 4th Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) 2010 in Mactan, Cebu,”
said new PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Cristino L. Naguiat, Jr. “The conduct of these
international tournaments helps promote the Philippines as an enjoyable and exciting
gaming and tourism destination. Last year’s event had participation from more than 300
poker enthusiasts from 33 countries. We hope the APPT 2010 will surpass this.”
In addition to great poker action, players can make the most of the tranquil surroundings at
the Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa. During their stay they can take in a round of golf or
pampering session in one of the world’s best spas. Those looking for more adventure
outside of the poker room can partake in a number of water sports activities on the incredible
island of Cebu.
PokerStars Team Asia Pro Celina Lin commented: “The five-star resort, with wonderful
beaches, spas and restaurants, is one of the most idyllic places I’ve ever played poker. Cebu
is a beautiful destination and the poker tournament itself was also fierce and fun. It will be
even better this time!”

SPECIAL CHARITY EVENT AT EPT LONDON SET TO RAISE MORE THAN £10,000 IN AID OF CANCER RESEARCH UK
September 23, 2010
A unique charity event is being held at this year’s PokerStars.com EPT London Poker
Festival in aid of Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating
cancer through research. The event, which has a guaranteed prize pool of £100,000, has a
buy-in of just £100 (+10+10). This is the first time an event of this kind has ever been run in
Europe.
£10 of each buy-in will go straight to Cancer Research UK, guaranteeing that at least
£10,000 will be raised for the charity. PokerStars, which is hosting the fund-raiser from
October 2-4 at London’s Hilton Metropole Hotel, has pledged to match both the £10 charity
contribution AND all additional player donations. Players can start donating now by
transferring funds from their account to the ‘cancerUK’ account on the PokerStars client.
The EPT London charity tournament follows several highly successful live tournament fundraisers
sponsored by PokerStars. In January this year, stars such as R&B singer Kelly
Rowland, the former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash and hip-hop star Nelly helped raise
more than $150,000 for amfAR, the AIDS research charity, during a celebrity charity poker
tournament held as part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas.
In Season 5, PokerStars players and celebrities such as French Rugby International
Sebastien Chabal, Spanish football International Pepe Reina and Eventing World Champion
(and UK royal) Zara Phillips helped raise more than €160,000 at the EPT Grand Final for
Ante Up For Africa, which is dedicated to helping people in worn-torn Darfur.
In 2008, PokerStars also lent its support to the annual Hold’em100 charity tournament,
which raises funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital. This is the first hospital in the
world dedicated to cancer treatment and is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in
Europe.
Players can register online for the EPT London Cancer Research UK event on PokerStars,
as well as for the EPT London Main Event and all other side events. Further details are on:
